I AM THE CHANGE I WANT TO SEE.

Mama Maisha is a nonprofit that works in rural Tanzania to empower women to make educated decisions around motherhood, and to have the resources to ensure that they have healthy pregnancies and safe delivery.  Our belief is that maternal mortality is a social injustice, and that everyone has a role to play in ending this harm.

Our Ambassador committee is a group of people in the United States who want to become active in supporting our work abroad.  Below is a list of ways you can support Mama Maisha and become part of the solution.

Raise Funds to help Mama Maisha Tanzania educate Maternal Health Advocates, ensure women have transportation to hospitals, and to provide water and food to women when delivering in the hospital.  Ways to raise funds can include:

• Having a local business host a night that benefits the organization

• Finding local businesses and/or religious institutions to sponsor a village in Tanzania

• Creating fundraising campaigns among your community by utilizing social media

• Hosting a Mama Maisha fundraising dinner and having a staff member or board member present at your event

Host an event to raise awareness.  Read books or show films on motherhood or issues impacting women in Africa.  Strategize on ways to take what you learn into the community.

Create speaking opportunities for Mama Maisha staff in the Asheville community by contacting local organizations and groups and letting them know about our work and asking them to host an informational session with us.

Collect items that are needed by the women who participate in our programs that can be taken to Africa.  These items include: newborn blankets, onesies, socks/hats; safe birth kit supplies (speak to a Mama Maisha staff for details)

Make hand-made items to be given to the women in our programs such as crocheted baby blankets and hats.

Distribute Mama Maisha flyers and stickers in the community to help connect people to our work.

Find companies to donate needed items to our participants such as menstrual cups, sanitary pads, etc.

Join our December fundraising committee to make our most important annual fundraising event a success.
