APPRECIATE & DONATE IN NAME OF YOUR MAMA 2021

Please join us as we celebrate your mama this Mother’s Day!

Asheville, May 1st 2021 - This year, Mother's Day is different. May 9th is not only a time to celebrate moms but, even more so, to appreciate the workload they've faced -and continue to face- during this pandemic year. Asheville non-profit MAMA MAISHA suggests we tell the world what we appreciate about our mamas, and, instead of giving her another kitchen apparatus or spa treatment, ask you to consider making a donation in your mama’s name to help the mamas of MAMA MAISHA, a donation that supports maternal health in Tanzania, East Africa.

“Just 30 dollars is a full month salary for our MHA’s (Maternal Health Advocates), local women who educate and support the women in their villages to ensure healthy pregnancy, safe delivery, and family planning for those in need”, says MAMA MAISHA’s President and co-founder Dr. Reta Graham, MD. “Wouldn’t that be the sweetest Mother’s Day gift, celebrating your mama by helping another mama?”

“We encourage everyone to post a photo of their mama (or grandma, sister, or mother-in law!) on our FaceBook page or Instagram, share why she is so amazing, and then donate in her name. Of course you help us the most if you make this an annual or monthly donation”, explains MAMA MAISHA’s Social Media Manager Natascha van Aalst Leitner, “And don’t forget to tag your mom and use the hashtag #mymamamaisha”.

Non-profit MAMA MAISHA connects their Asheville community with their Tanzania community, striving to make sure mothers no longer die from childbirth in Tanzania, an East African nation most commonly known for wild animals in the Serengeti National Park. With 49.2 million people and limited access to health care, women and babies die during childbirth every day.

MAMA’S DAY - 10K, MAY 13, 2017

Join us in supporting Safe Motherhood with a 10K run beginning at Carrier Park and continuing along the French Broad River.

Proceeds benefit MAMA MAISHA, an Asheville-based non-profit making motherhood safer in Tanzania. Pregnancy complication-related deaths are rare in developed countries, but in Tanzania, one mother dies every single hour. MAMA MAISHA provides life-saving supplies, support, and education for women in need. Our Maternal Health Advocates are local women trained to facilitate women's groups, organize community action, make home visits, and promote public health.
