OUR PROGRAM

We believe that the death of a mother is so much more than a health issue.

Childbirth is the leading cause of death in women age 15-49 in Sub-Saharan Africa. MAMA MAISHA works at the village level to improve maternal health outcomes and prevent this needless loss of life. We do this by utilizing a model of community engagement with women-led facilitated participatory groups.  The groups implement a four phase learning and action cycle to address the unique challenges to women’s health in individual communities.

Studies around the globe show women-led community groups improve the health of mothers and their families.

WE BELIEVE…

MAMA MAISHA believes maternal mortality is a violation of a woman’s most basic human rights

every woman has the right to a healthy pregnancy, a safe delivery, and access to modern methods of family planning, should that be her choice. Needless loss of life is not complicated or expensive, but it does require a focus on health and human rights.
